Last week Stevens father Gerard visited us in Mexico. He spend an entire week with us on beautiful Isla Holbox. Being curious by nature, he just wanted to come and see (and feel) how we have been living our lives since we left Holland in 2011. This is what he found:

‘Evolutionary change is driven by accidental mutation of the genes and environmental alteration. In most cases the outcome is neutral or even desastrous. Sometimes however, in combination with that strange mixture of selfishness and altruism, the change may enable species to adapt, to survive and to reproduce even better than before.

Human change is driven by conscious deviation in thoughts and behaviour from what is generally accepted as being normal. In most cases the outcome is neutral or even desastrous. Sometimes however, in combination with that strange mixture of personal happiness and conviction, the change may enable people to improve their life in a material or spiritual way.

Maybe the genes of the Digital Nomadz have been mutated. At least their environment has changed lately. Now they are trying to adapt, to survive and hopefully to reproduce. I have seen them happily succeeding in adapting and surviving. And I am sure they will be able to continue to do that.

Their way of living certainly is uncommon and at times exciting. They have lots of deviant ideas, most of which are probably doomed to extinct. But instead of adjusting to the status quo, to me it seems better to stay creative and maybe, just maybe, someday you’ll have that idea (or combination of ideas) that will enrich your life and that of others in a profound way. Even more than you are doing right now, because taking into account all the positive responses on your site you are already inspiring a lot of people.

And if not, you had a wonderful journey travelling the world and get to know other cultures, meet new people and see beautiful landscapes. Which is even more important according to Constantine Cavafy.

You have my full support!
